typewriter poetry

[click-clack]

for events that celebrate connection.

in the Hudson Valley & beyond.

fast forward.

it’s the end of your event.

everyone’s leaving,
off to wherever they’re off to next.

you’ve had an incredible time.
you feel connected,
joyfully exhausted, but also wondering:
how is it over already?

that’s the thing about time, isn’t it?
it just keeps going.

you’ve put all of your energy and anticipation
into your event, celebration, milestone, gathering
– hell, even life itself

that by the time it’s come to an end,

you’re wondering how it happened so quickly.

if only you could

stop time.

oh, wait. you [sort-of] can.

rhyming,
schmyming

when most people come to my table, their first assumption is that all poems have to rhyme, sound like dr. seuss, or read similar to something they had to write in the second grade. nope. not here. while that style may be loved by some, my typewriter poems are a very different experience. most of my poems are written in free verse, inspired by prose-poetry, heavy in metaphor, sometimes haiku, and always, always brave in voice and big in heart.

ask your questions

  • each poem typically takes 3-5 minutes to craft. my method is intuitive and fueled by the input received from each guest.

  • oh, what a super question. the answer, i believe, is magick. but really—i don’t know how i’m able to work quickly while also ensuring each poem is thoughtfully written, but it works every time, so i’ve stopped questioning the process!

  • all events. truly. or anywhere people are looking for a memorable and personal experience that makes them feel cared for: check, check, check.

    1. a guest comes up to my table, intrigued at the sound of metal keys hitting the blank page. they wonder: have i gone back in time?

    2. i strike up a conversation. what’s on your heart? they’ll share with me a word, a feeling, or a memory. our conversation inspires something alive within them.

    3. i craft an original poem on the spot.

    4. they receive their one-of-a-kind work of art, reading it to themselves, to the other guests, or they choose to save it for a quieter moment later on.

    5. tears, usually. gasping. holding of the chest. explosions of gratitude.

    6. repeat.

  • i typically write around 10-15 poems per hour, depending on the length of each conversation. for larger events, i offer options that allow for more hours or additional time to ensure all guests have a chance to participate if they wish.

  • no, not at all! guests are welcome to share as much or as little as they’d like. sometimes just a single word or emotion is enough for me to create a meaningful piece. i trust the medicine of the poem, no matter how much detail is given in advance. i want each person who comes to my table to feel comfortable.

  • yes! i bring my own typewriter, paper, and a few simple decor elements. if you have a specific vision or theme in mind, let’s discuss how we can incorporate it! i do ask for a space with a light source, whether that’s outside or inside. also keep in mind that in case of rain, there should always be a dry space available for typewriter poems! ink and water don’t mix so well.

  • i’m located in the Hudson Valley of New York (think: New Paltz/Kingston/Newburgh area), and i’m more than happy to travel beyond my local area for your event. keep in mind, i do include travel feels for events located outside a 50-mile radius of my sweet little home.

  • it’s best to book as early as possible. know your date? know you definitely want typewriter poetry and that i’m the perfect fit for you? i wouldn’t delay — the more and more machine in our world, the more people are craving for unique experiences with a focus on human connection. this is that. however, if your event is coming up fast and you haven’t booked yet, i’ll do my best to accommodate last-minute requests if i have availability.

  • of course! each guest leaves your memorable event with their own unique, hand-typed poem as a special memento.

  • oh, i’m glad you asked! if you’ve skipped past all the buttons above, you can fill out an inquiry form here and i’ll be in your inbox within 48 hours of receipt.
