see the ordinary with
extraordinary perception.
i believe that being human is a gift too many are taught to look away from.
but i know we have supernatural abilities, waiting for our attention.
i’m here to walk with you, back to a field of wonder, possibility, and depth of presence,
while embracing the human heart, organic creativity, and intuitive expression.
hey, friend! i’m jess.
poet, mother, mystic.
my journey here began while sitting bedside in a hospital room.
in 2014, my new baby was born with a rare congenital heart condition and my life turned upside down. my values were rearranged, and because of that, i was invited to put into perspective what it means to be here. alive. the gift of life, received. but what to do with it?
the truth was: so little was known about my daughter’s condition that it became necessary to confront the very real possibility of death. my relationship to it, how i defined it, and what it might tell us about life.
it became clear to me — if life couldn’t make any promises about longevity, then what could i bring as a promise to life itself? depth of presence. i can make each moment count. i can decide to be the kind of person i want to be, the type of woman and Mother my children will witness-in-action. i can decide on who i am, how i affect any space i’m in, how i speak to people, and how i connect. i can decide that living life is a luxury, a gift meant to be celebrated and shared, even through grief and change.
i know it’s not always easy
to see the magick and beauty in life when life feels so … fleeting, packed-full, challenging, and overwhelming.
but it’s possible.
i’m a big believer in slowing down. wayyyy down.
slowing down heightens our awareness, allowing us the space to acknowledge all that’s beautiful and in abundance around and within us, while also grounding us into the path that is most sacred: the one we’ve been gifted to walk.
which is why i use modalities like typewriter poetry (poetry is like medicine for the soul; in-person events promote connection and shared humanity) and intentional wandering (inspired by forest therapy practices).
what began as a painful, grief-filled journey, became a path of intention, wonder, & beauty.
with the help of writing, poetry, healthy connection, and practices to establish a slower rhythm of living, the pit of grief in my stomach transformed into a perspective that magick is around every corner, beauty is present whether or not i’m allowing myself to see it, and life is a gift to be opened, received well, and shared with the world around me…
and that all of this can happen while still holding the awareness that life is not always easy.
it’s my intention to invite you into a slower-way, to walk alongside you as you rediscover small-moment-wonders of your own, and to support you in the sacred (& oftentimes: messy) path of the human experience.
i created The Sweet Slow as an invitation for slowing down, appreciating life, and cultivating a sense of depth and presence. i'm a believer that when we're deeply connected to our own Hearts, our intuition, our inner landscapes and our external spaces, we become small-suns, extending light, contributing to the greater whole, and leaving behind a legacy that serves generations beyond ourselves.
with an extensive background in poetry, writing, literature, and forest-therapy,
i bring together all of what i love about words and nature as a doorway into the liminal,
into ourselves, and into greater connection and presence.
